Job Title: Nature Education Facilitator, After School Program Department: Education Reports to: Kent Jackson, Director of Education Position Status: Temporary, (mid April through late June 2023) Part-Time, Non-Exempt Compensation: $17-$20 per hour Work Schedule: Tuesday-Friday 3:00pm-5:00pm About this Position: Are you interested in connecting the curiosity of the Greater Boston youth to the overwhelming beauty of nature all while educating them on scientific concepts? Would you like to facilitate outdoor activities in an inspiring, interactive, hands-on/minds-on, and culturally responsive way? The Emerald Necklace Conservancy is hiring capable, enthusiastic educators to lead outdoor afterschool nature connection/environmental education activities for Boston youth ages 10-13, in Emerald Necklace Parks. Responsibilities: Work with Education staff to prepare and facilitate interactive nature connection/environmental education activities in Emerald Necklace parks Lead groups of 12-15 program participants in hands-on outdoor nature-based learning experiences in Emerald Necklace Parks Monitor program participants in all types of outdoor environments and ensure the safety and comfort of all participants Maintain a professional work environment, which includes equipment cleanup and storage of program gear and materials Provide basic first aid as needed Qualifications: Experience with facilitating outdoor nature connection and environmental education activities for youth Ability to teach youth in an outdoor environment Interest in natural history, nature connection, environmental education, and science education. Strong organizational, time management, oral, and written communication skills. Experience in customer service or childcare and excellent interpersonal skills. Skills and ability to work with diverse groups, exercise cultural humility, and implement best practices in inclusion. Demonstrate a positive attitude while working on a team Reliable transportation to transport teaching materials to and from activity locations. Proficiency in standard business software, such as Microsoft Office or G Suite. Preference for a Bachelor's Degree in process or completed, preferably in education, environmental education, or related field, including formal or informal (certified naturalist, certified environmental educator, etc.). Fluency in English/Spanish (or other languages) is desirable. Preference given to candidates from the Boston community. Certifications /Requirements Current First Aid and CPR Certification Employees must successfully complete a CORI and SORI Background Check. Tentative After School Program Dates: April 18-21 April 25-April 28 May 2-May 5 May 9-May 12 May 16-May 19 May 23-May 26 May 30-June 2 June 6-June 9 June 13-June 16 June 20-June 23 TO APPLY: Submit a cover letter and resume no later than January 27, 2023.
