Bethany School seeks a Religion Teacher beginning August 2023 . Successful candidates are culturally competent, responsible, caring, and enthusiastic people who possess content area and pedagogical knowledge in religious education and aspire to model exploration and discovery for children as they develop their own spiritual identity. By helping students engage in a joyful and reasoned approach to asking and answering questions about God, faith, religion, and human spirituality, this person plays an important role in supporting the Episcopal identity of Bethany School and the values articulated in the mission statement of the school. Successful candidates will also demonstrate understanding of the developmental characteristics of children in the elementary and intermediate grade levels and will have had positive experiences working with students in these grades. Compensation includes salary and benefits commensurate with education and experience. Qualified Religion Teacher candidates will possess or demonstrate the following: Bachelor's Degree in religion, religious education, or other related field required; Master's Degree preferred Experience fostering religious and spiritual formation within children Experience fostering Episcopal identity within a learning/worship environment is preferred The ability to work closely with the Spiritual Life team to curate and implement a curriculum within the Religion Department's Scope and Sequence that includes learning about the Christian tradition, other religious traditions, and ethical living. The skills to collaborate with the Chaplain and Spiritual Life Team to support and enrich the spiritual growth of students, faculty, staff, and families. A commitment to justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion Initiative regarding job-related tasks, responsibilities, and projects Prioritization of student safety and security Dependability and professionalism; be punctual, complete work in a timely manner, exhibit a consistent work ethic, maintain calm under pressure, and exercise sound judgment Strong interpersonal and communication skills; communicate effectively and professionally in writing and verbally Proficiency in the use of technology, especially Google Classroom and Google Workspace apps Willingness to participate in ongoing professional development Each Bethany School faculty member is expected to: Foster and steward a culture of mutual respect, equitable practice, and joy in and out of the classroom Set reasonable expectations for the development of the mind, body, and spirit Exhibit a solid working knowledge of best teaching practices Identify and support students' social, emotional, and academic needs Provide timely feedback to students and families via online portals, email, and phone calls Design and facilitate productive dialogue among students and teachers Communicate effectively and professionally with students/families about classwork, learning goals, and student progress Demonstrate content knowledge and expertise, and scaffold curriculum to ensure progress toward mastery of skills and concepts Collaborate and plan actively for learning School Context: Bethany School has been a beacon of hope and a sanctuary for children and families for almost 125 years. The school was founded in 1898 by the Sisters of the Transfiguration, a religious order of Episcopal women, and continues to serve the original mission of their ministry to this day. Bethany's traditions of academic excellence and spiritual growth make it a place where curious learners thrive. The spirit of kindness, simplicity, and joy, stated in the school's motto, abounds. Bethany is Ohio's only Episcopal school, a private, co-ed, K-8, small school of about 170 students, located in the historic Village of Glendale, Ohio. The Bethany community lays a firm spiritual and academic foundation for children to discover their passion, develop a sense of humanity, and live purposeful lives of service. The school has completed the construction of two LEED Platinum Certified academic buildings, along with the installation of geo-exchange wells, natural play landscapes using site-recycled hardwood, and solar panels on a beautiful 23-acre campus.
