Position Summary Destination DC (DDC) is hiring a domestic media relations manager to join the communications team within our Marketing & Communications Department. If you love being creative, nimble, resourceful and passionate about telling Washington, DC stories through domestic media coverage this position is for you. You will bring years of PR experience; applying PR expertise will be an expert on DC's tourism offerings. As the Domestic Media Relations Manager, you will embrace DC's offerings to pitch and create exciting opportunities to host domestic journalists. Essential Duties and Responsibilities (include the following, but are not limited to) Has a robust rolodex of national travel and lifestyle domestic journalists and editors. Uses these relationships to pitch and elevate Washington, DC as a premier destination for leisure travel. Foster journalists' relationships and earn coverage by meeting with journalists and editors in DC's top visitor markets. Align media efforts with DC's top visitor markets, traveler personas and advertising strategy. Strategically pitch long lead and short lead opportunities aligned with DC's cultural calendar, major events, development, hotel and restaurant openings, sports and more. Work with media on story angles, individual press trips and to arrange interviews with DDC representatives. Elevate DDC's president and CEO locally and regionally as the leading authority on travel around DC's calendar, including things to do seasonally, holiday travel and only-in-DC festivals and events. Create in-market media opportunities to host journalists aligned with major editorial opportunities, such as cultural events or hotel openings. Coordinate press tours for groups and individual journalists, including obtaining transportation, accommodations, attraction passes, meals and interviews as needed. Serve as host for journalists on press trips, including weekend and evening activities. Liaise with DDC members, local businesses and community organizations to develop partnerships and collaborations to enhance DDC's image. Demonstrate the value of hosting for members through press coverage and media connections. Maximize budget by securing in-kind hosting and experiences for journalists through DDC member relationships. Fulfill individual journalist requests including research, fact-checking and trip planning. Assist in planning and participate in regular press events to highlight DDC's programs and objectives. Participate in media development missions and tradeshows as needed. Write and edit press releases and materials, talking points, content for the quarterly journalist newsletter and DDC's online press room. Maintain database of travel and lifestyle writers, freelancers, editors and related media associates based on coverage areas. Work collaboratively within the marketing and communications department to develop editorial content as assigned. Manage special projects and other duties as assigned. What You Bring: Experience, Competencies & Education You have excellent oral and written skills, plus strong editing skills, attention to detail and proofreading You are a news junkie who is up to speed on all things happening in DC by reading/watching the local news; staying current on social and attending local events and openings. You can demonstrate proven success juggling multiple competing priorities to achieve goals. You thrive on chasing and achieving proactive media placements and understand how to balance of reactive requests coming in. You are deadline driven and respond to all requests in a timely manner. You have an editorial eye and proven success garnering national media placements Five to seven (5-7) years of public relations, journalistic or marketing experience preferred Four-year degree from an academic institution in public relations, journalism, marketing or communications preferred Travel/hospitality industry experience preferred Familiarity with Cision and media training preferred Willing to work weekends, evenings, if needed Must be fully vaccinated from Covid-19 To Apply : Submit, cover letter, resume and work samples at: http://www.washington.org/careers .
