YMCA Camp Santa Maria is looking for creative and adaptive facilitators who are looking to share their love for the outdoors through accessible and engaging outdoor education. Outdoor Activity Specialists are the go-to staff members for outdoor recreation programs, leadership and fun on the fly. You will help children tap into their sense of wonder for the natural world around them. The Outdoor Activity Specialists oversee the delivery of our high-quality outdoor adventure programming such as single pitch climbing, hiking, survival skills, and mountain biking to campers ages 6-17 and work under the leadership of our Activities Manager. They will lead campers from all Traditional and Outdoor programs in programming incorporating Leave No Trace principles, team building while also giving individual support, mentorship and attention to campers. Pay Rate: Starting at $400-450/week dependent on previous Camp Santa Maria or other camp experience and certifications. This position requires you to live at camp. Room and board are included. Need more info now: https://www.ymcanoco.org/camp-santa-maria/work-at-camp Essential Functions Lead program activities with the Cabin Leaders to meet the needs of the camp community and fulfill YMCA objectives. Support camp daily, weekly and seasonally as an engaged member of planning and meeting sessions with the Camp Santa Maria support staff team. Coordinates use of facilities for program activities and events with the Leadership staff team. Live in Cabins with Cabin Leaders if necessary for ratio. Models relationship-building skills for campers and staff. Maintains constructive and timely communication with supervisor. Qualifications 18 years old. Completion of: Child Abuse Prevention for Supervisory Staff, Staff Training, WFA, CPR, AED, Bloodborne Pathogens. (We provide this as part of staff training week) Lifeguard certification is a plus. Completion of YMCA program-specific certification during Staff Training. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community. Previous verifiable, documented experience (i.e., guiding logbook, college transcripts) in specialty areas is desired. Ability to plan, lead and participate in a range of activities in a variety of outdoor/indoor settings. Physical Demands Camp life can be physically and emotionally challenging. You will be asked to function at a minimum 8200 ft of elevation, with common activity areas hiking up to 9500 ft, in a variety of summer mountain weather ranging from snow to highs in the 90's with potential strong thunderstorms. On an average day you will walk 3-5 miles. All YMCA of Northern Colorado part-time staff working 10+ hours each week are eligible to receive a free family membership. Staff who work 10+ hours a week earn 50% to 100% off our programs. That includes free YMCA traditional day camp, youth sports, learn to skate and swim lessons, and half off YMCA Camp Santa Maria overnight camp, personal training, specialty summer camps, and childcare.
