Exempt: Exempt Salary Level: $53,000 a year Reports to: Accounting Manager Department: Finance Location: Phoenix, AZ Date: February 2023 General Description Reporting to the Accounting Manager, the Staff Accountant is conversant in MIP and payroll software's, to provide support to colleagues in the department. In concert with all internal entities, works with multi-site program and administration staff. This position maintains a general ledger, reconciles, records entries and ensure compliance with the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following: Weight Description 70 Perform monthly balance sheet reconciliations. 10 Perform month-end and fiscal year end close. 5 Assist with annual audit preparation. 4 Preparing financial analyses and reports. 3 Assist with requests from various departments and management. 3 Collaborate with internal departments to gather, analyze and interpret relevant financial information. 3 Back up, at the second level, for Payroll Supervisor and Staff Accountant II responsibilities. 2 All other duties as assigned. Qualifications Requirements To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education and/or Experience AA Degree or equivalent in accounting or a related field; one or more years of related experience in general ledger reconciliations, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Non-profit experience preferred. ERP accounting software experience preferred. Language Skills Ability to speak, read, and write English. Excellent oral and written communications skills. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret accounting journals, financial reports and other documents commonly used in account or administration functions. Ability to respond appropriately to common inquiries or complaints from clients, regulatory agencies, staff members or members of the business community. Ability to effectively present information to management and to respond in writing to situations, as required by management. Must communicate effectively, anticipating needs and keeping staff informed of problems and issues. Mathematical Skills Strong financial and record keeping skills. Substantial ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, proportions, and percentages. Ability to apply concepts of arithmetic and basic algebra. Reasoning Ability Ability to define problems, collect data, evaluate information, draw conclusions, and propose appropriate, workable solutions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with abstract and concrete variables. Other Skills and Abilities Ability to work with MSOffice products, particularly advanced formulation in Excel, Word, and Outlook. Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information and situations. Excellent interpersonal skills. Ability to maintain positive working relationships with a variety of personalities and situations. Positive, professional demeanor. Must be detail oriented. Ability to organize, prioritize and complete projects in a timely manner. Ability to meet deadlines, handle multiple tasks and constant interruptions. Ability to be Courteous, dependable, flexible, responsible, punctual, and professional. Strong work ethic. Resourceful and capable of taking initiative in a changing work workplace environment and to complete tasks in a timely manner. Physical Demands/Work Environment The physical demands and work environment characteristics here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to sit or stand for long periods of time as well as climb. The employee frequently is required to use hands to hold objects and operate office equipment and is required to be able to listen and communicate effectively.
