Position Summary The Clinic RN - Regional Team Lead provides and demonstrates effective leadership and promotes a team atmosphere within their team at the regional site and throughout the organization. Oversees daily workflow within the team and organizes daily work assignments. Provides direct patient care by completing the patient rooming and check-out process in clinic, educating patients on care plans and related items, assisting with and/or performs procedures, administering ancillary tests and intravenous therapy. Provides patient care over the phone by promptly implementing physician/provider orders and demonstrating clinical understanding of the purpose of the order, as well as using clinical nursing assessment and judgment. Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities LEADERSHIP FUNCTIONS Fosters development of a clinical team that provides excellent GI clinical care and an optimum patient experience. Demonstrates effective leadership and promotes a team atmosphere throughout the organization. Serves as a positive role model. Assists in the selection and onboarding of team members. Participates in annual and ongoing performance management and completes documentation in a timely manner and discusses with human resources as necessary. Anticipates provider's needs, reviews schedules in advance, assures the master schedule is up-to-date regarding call schedule, meetings, vacations, etc. Prepares monthly team schedules and assesses for adequate staffing. Organizes daily work assignments and prepares team meeting agendas. Assesses all employee and patient incidences and occurrences and assures they are properly reported. Participates as an active contributor in Leadership Council and other assigned committees/meetings. Maintains policy & procedure manual for the team. Demonstrates ability to effectively manage conflict. Maintains a calm, positive demeanor in stressful situations. Participates in organizational change initiatives. With management, providers, the clinical team and other staff works to assure organizational response to internal and external changes is positively promoted, fully implemented, and performance is sustained. Reviews and amends current processes to increase efficiency in the clinic. Assures staff completion of all yearly comprehensive skill check with mandatory education requirements including but not limited to recertification, safety, compliance, infection control, and risk management updates. CLINICAL FUNCTIONS Provides direct patient care by administering ancillary tests and intravenous therapy utilizing proper technique consistent with SGNA and practice policy and procedure. Completes the patient rooming and check-out processes. Obtains, documents and/or verifies all required information, including but not limited to reason for visit, past medical history and procedures, allergies, medications, social and family history, demographics, pharmacy, Advance Directive and other required information. After provider visit, schedules patient follow-up appointments and procedures, contacts pharmacies with new and refill prescription orders, assists in referring patient for ancillary services as directed by provider and documents future appointments and procedures. Accurately enter provider's orders using computerized provider order entry (CPOE) for (but not limited to) medication, laboratory, diagnostic imaging orders and procedure orders. Chaperones and/or assists with procedures, including but not limited to anoscopy, trigger point injections, internal hemorrhoid banding and other procedures within scope of practice. Promptly answers patient phone calls, screens patient calls for physicians, consults/updates physician with new or acute patient complaints, schedules patient appointments, and revises the patient schedules for cancellations and changes for physician's schedules. Manages physician wait list effectively. Communicates post-procedure diagnosis and treatment plan, medication updates, and other related items, consistent with physician request. Properly documents patient interactions and tracks patients to assure follow-up plan is implemented. Provides patient education; explains care plans and prescribed medications, teaches regarding pre- and post-procedure, explains prep instructions, and other related items. Accurately records nursing actions in the electronic medical record to reflect all care given to the patient, observations made about the patient, and the response to treatment or medications by the patient. Contacts/phones/faxes pharmacies with new and refill prescription orders. Ensures readiness of chart/orders/H&P for procedures; takes initial medical history information for all new patients and verifies accuracy of medical history and medication information, documents current symptoms at each follow-up visit, and assures information required to successfully measure and report care quality measures are properly documented in every encounter. Serves as a role model to peers and co-workers in the delivery of patient care, personal conduct and personal appearance. Supervise and/or coordinate delegation of patient care assignments to licensed and unlicensed personnel as needed. Performs clerical duties such as photocopying forms, insurance cards, reports, patient information, labels and faxing or requests faxes as needed by the department or the office. Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Education Associate Degree in Nursing or Bachelor of Science in Nursing required. Licensure/Certification Current Registered Nurse license in the State of Wisconsin required. BLS certification required; ACLS certification preferred. CGRN certification through ABCGN required within five years of employment. Experience Minimum three-years of nursing experience preferred. Previous gastroenterology experience preferred. Minimum one year of leadership experience highly preferred. Competencies Required Knowledge Advanced clinical knowledge of the GI system, pharmaceuticals, and GI related diagnostic testing (lab and radiology). Skills Possesses interpersonal, communication, and listening skills necessary to deal effectively and courteously with patients, physicians, coworkers, and all levels of staff. Advanced clinical nursing assessment and documentation skills. Proficient computer skills working in an Electronic Medical Record (EMR), Practice Management software, Microsoft Word, and the Internet. Demonstrates professionalism and respect in all forms of communication and correspondence. Exhibits a high level of phone and customer/patient service skills and etiquette to provide excellent patient care. Abilities Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of health information. Ability to work in a fast paced, multi-tasking environment and cope with rapidly changing patient care needs. Ability to document accurately and efficiently in an electronic medical record.
