SUMMARY: The Library Clerk is responsible for clerical tasks as assigned by the Librarians in the CEE library. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Circulation desk coverage during all class visits and throughout the day which may include: Checking in, renewing, and placing holds on material Managing self-checkout stations and assisting children with checkout Troubleshooting and correcting circulation errors Preparing daily sets of date due cards throughout the year Creating circulation reports and using them to maintain circulation records Preparing overdue reminders for students Emailing families a reminder prior to their child's next library visit Maintaining the "holds" shelf Pulling and delivering books Notifying students when saved items become available Managing overdue material Book Processing including labeling new books and book repair Shelf maintenance including Shelving books as needed Training parent volunteers Filling display cases as needed Updating shelf labeling as needed Annual Inventory including Coordinating annual shelf check Shelf reading and fixing discrepancies Scanning, downloading, and finalizing inventory Interact positively and appropriately with Center children ranging from ages 2 through 12. Demonstrate a love of reading and support library team efforts to promote this throughout the school community. Assist with library programming and special events as needed. Maintain a sensitive, cooperative and flexible demeanor in interactions with others. Demonstrate professionalism through reliability and punctuality, as well as personal appearance and self-care, and maintain personal integrity and a respectful attitude in professional relationships. Provide for the physical safety of children through anticipation and removal of hazards, visual observation of children active or at rest, and by appropriately responding to injuries. QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty to the satisfaction of the Librarians and the administration. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Experience in working with children; high school diploma or better; coursework in education and/or child development. Relevant experience in a library setting is valuable. BEHAVIORAL SKILLS: Demonstrate personal integrity, collaboration, friendliness, patience, fairness, openness, non-defensiveness, sensitivity, flexibility, enthusiasm, and initiative. Interest in working with children and in education. LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze and interpret written documents, write reports and letters to parents and others. Ability to verbally present information and respond to children, parents, colleagues, and supervisors and speak and write from a child-focused perspective. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide; create and interpret graphs; compute ratio and percent and use a calculator. TECHNICAL SKILLS: Proficient in customary technology and software such as g-suite, email, calendar, word processing, and teleconferencing software such as Zoom. REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and apply common sense in dealing with every day and emergency situations. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram and schedule form.
