ShelterCare 's Housing Services for Families (HSF) program of Eugene, OR is seeking to hire a full-time (32-35 hours a week) Rental Assistance Specialist to assist eligible households with accessing available rental assistance programs. This position is based in Eugene, OR with some remote work, on the phone and computer to screen applicants for eligibility for rental assistance following the guidelines of the grants. They communicate with the consumer seeking assistance as well as their landlord in order to explain the program offered and to collect all the necessary documentation required to determine eligibility. This is a temporary position which is funded through June 30, 2023. Our HSF program helps families avoid homelessness or quickly regain housing. We provide financial assistance and case management to families who are facing a loss of housing, have already lost housing, are at risk of losing their children due to a housing crisis. The Rental Assistance Specialist earns a competitive wage of $16.53/hr - $19.17/hr, depending on experience . This is a non-exempt, hourly position. WORK SCHEDULE: The schedule for this hybrid remote position is considered full-time working Monday - Friday, during the hours of 8:30am - 5:00pm. This position will start in office for training purposes and switch to a hybrid schedule created with the supervisor. After 90 days there is potential to change to full time remote work. This is a temporary position which will last the duration of the fiscal year 2022/23, ending on June 30, 2023. A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A RENTAL ASSISTANCE SPECIALIST As a Rental Assistance Specialist, you will determine the consumers' eligibility for services. You will determine if annual income falls within set parameters, develop and maintain appropriate files and records, and certify eligibility within program and Agency timelines. You will also assist our consumers by reviewing, evaluating, and verifying participant information including household composition and income. You will enter applicant/participant information electronically. You will coordinate information with other staff members regarding participant issues and communicate with co-workers, participants, owners and other community members. You will ensure necessary documents are completed, legible, and signed. You will be responsible for answering questions regarding income and family composition. You'll need to communicate with landlords and tenants who may be upset or angry, so you'll need the skills to communicate respectively in those scenarios. You will be working from home, performing the essential administrative tasks that help our consumers keep their housing. ShelterCare will provide you with an agency-owned laptop and phone. This position resembles an office or administrative assistant, with extra aspects of social services and assisting people who are or may become unhoused. QUALIFICATIONS Required Record keeping, arithmetic, business letter-writing and report preparation Proficient in current office procedures, methods and equipment Knowledge of principles and techniques of interviewing Intermediate to advance knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written Type a minimum of 45 WPM Some remote work may be available. Ability to successfully pass a DHS background check Preferred Spanish fluency (written and oral) Prior case management and/or counseling experience is strongly preferred Experience working with individuals diagnosed with severe and persistent mental illness ARE YOU READY TO JOIN OUR TEAM?
