Veterans Inc., the largest provider of services to veterans and their families throughout New England, is looking for a professional, highly motivated, goal oriented individual to fill the HR Generalist position and become a valued member of Veterans Inc. team! Under the general supervision of the Human Resources Manager, the primary function of the Human Resources Generalist is to assist in the coordination and implementation of human resources activities to include but not limited to employee benefits, compensation, policy administration, employee recognition and retention. This position provides exempt level team leadership in the absence of the Human Resources Manager. This individual would be based out of the 69 Grove Street, Worcester, MA 01605 location. All duties would be performed throughout the designated territory's surrounding cities and towns within the state. This is a full time position with full benefits (health, dental, vision, 403B, paid time off, short/long term disability and life insurance, etc.) The annual salary range is commensurate with education and experience. Essential Functions: Employee Benefits Coordinates and assists with the administration of employee health and benefit plans including preparing annual census, open enrollment program, employee enrollments, changes, and terminations after probationary period; processing required benefit documentation through payroll and ensures accurate billing; enrolling terminated employees into third party COBRA system. Updates time off accruals in the payroll system. Employee Recognition and Retention: Coordinates employee wellness, service, recognition and retention programs including developing employee surveys and analyzing results, coordinating quarterly employee presentations on health and wellness, leading the creation and development of new ways to recognize and retain Veterans Inc. top talent. Program Coordination: Coordinates and implements updated Veterans Inc. internship program by ensuring internship policy and program is in compliance with Department of Labor regulations, managing the intern application process and assisting with the selection of interns for the appropriate department; presents the Veterans Inc. internship program to area colleges; works with Marketing and Communications department to market internship program. Recruiting: Assists with recruiting efforts by participating in the interview and selection process. Represents Veterans Inc. at career fairs and networking events as needed. New Hire Onboarding: Assists with new hire onboarding by composing offer letters, processing requests for criminal background records checks, employment, degree and military service verification checks. Represents Human Resources department in new hire orientation process. Assists Training Manager with coordination of new hire orientation process and training and development efforts as needed. Affirmative Action Planning: Assists in the design and implementation of Affirmative Action Plan by collecting and analyzing data; creates graphs and charts based on data review; assists in implementation of identified plan goals. Employee Relations: Assists with the review and update of the Veterans Inc. Policy and Procedure Manual by researching federal and state laws, regulations and policies; educating managers and staff on new policies and updates to existing policies. Assists with the coordination of employee performance review process to include 30/60/90 day probationary review and annual performance review. Assists with employee relations, disciplinary and termination process as needed. Miscellaneous: Pursues training and development opportunities that increase knowledge, skills and abilities required for position. Actively participates in agency fundraising efforts. Other duties as assigned. K nowledge, Skills and Abilities: Basic understanding of human resources functions, procedures, federal, state and local laws. Knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Word/Excel/Power Point/Outlook/Publisher) and HRIS software. Knowledge of basic mathematical principles with ability to make accurate arithmetic calculations. Business letter writing and the standard format for typed materials with knowledge of correct spelling, grammar and punctuation. Methods and techniques of proper phone etiquette. Methods and techniques for basic report preparation and writing. Methods and techniques for record keeping and filing. Customer service methods and techniques. Ability to organize, multi-task, coordinate schedules and complete projects by established deadline. Ability to exercise good judgment and maintain confidentiality in maintaining critical and sensitive information, records, and reports. Ability to understand, interpret, and apply general administrative and departmental policies and procedures. Ability to answer questions and provide information to employees, outside agencies, and the general public requiring the interpretation and explanation of the services provided by Veterans Inc. Ability to work under steady pressure with frequent interruptions and a high degree of public contact by phone or in person. Ability to use sound judgment in following and applying appropriate laws, regulations, policies, and procedures. Understand and follow verbal and written instructions. Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with managers, staff, volunteers and clients in the course of daily work. Minimum Requirements: Minimum of Bachelors degree in Human Resources, Business or other related field. Minimum of three (3) years of Human Resources Generalist work experience. Knowledge of benefits administration, employment law or compensation and benefits experience highly preferred.
