About LOVB: League One Volleyball (LOVB) is reimagining women's sports. Launched in 2019, our company is a mission-led sports performance, training and media venture that will change the game of volleyball in the USA and empower new generations of female athletes.It is a groundbreaking time for volleyball in the US with our historic triple Olympic Gold medals in Women's Indoor, Beach and Sitting Volleyball. Volleyball is already the #1 most played girls' youth sport. There are 38M current and former players today. Of major sports, it's the only one that is women-first (~90% of players are female). But the volleyball market has been almost entirely missed by traditional sports investors, brands and media.LOVB will capture this opportunity by building a foundational business with leading youth clubs in the country, which will create an avid fanbase for the best Pro League in the world and use a digital media platform that will connect all aspects of #LOVBforLife. This community-up approach will drive participation and fandom, while enabling greater empowerment for girls and young women living this amazing sport. The Role: The Director of Sport for LOVB Pro will play a critical role for the pro league, reporting directly to the COO, Pro and leading all aspects of volleyball specific planning for the pro team. Responsibilities include the Pro product on the court; talent identification and contracting; volleyball specific needs within competition and training venues, and development of sport specific policies and procedures. This role will collaborate with all workstream leads as needed and will work in particular close coordination with the operations and events team. The Director of Sport will be responsible for building and leading a team in the build up to the launch of the pro league in 2024. Key duties include: Volleyball relationships ● Lead all day to day volleyball specific relationships for LOVB including, but not limited to, USAV, FIVB, AAU, AVCA, athletes, agents, coaches and officials● Lead coordination and communication with LOVB's athlete wellness group and the LOVB Pro advisory group● Lead communication and oversee coordination of LOVB's athlete's council Pro Product ● Define the format and presentation of the game for the pro league, working closely with the VP, Events and Operations● Provide sports and athlete specific input into the fan experience and entertainment aspects of the pro product● Development and ownership of the training and competition scheduleTalent ● Identify and recruit U.S. and international athletes to both play in, and support marketing efforts of, the pro league including contracting and negotiation.● Identify, recruit and contract coaches and officials for the pro league● Develop the off the court proposition for athletes including, but not limited to benefits, financial literacy, wellness and professional development opportunities● Work with COO, Pro to build a staffing and resource plan for this workstream Planning, policies & procedures● Development and ownership of rules and regulations for the game include any sanctioningprocesses● Development of all sport specific rules, regulations, policies, procedures & contingency plans● Identify and source sports specific needs, services and equipment for each training and competition venue● Development and publishing of key manuals for the Pro league including for officials, team leaders and competition forms.Experience: ● Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Sports Business, Event Management or similar field● Master's in Business Administration degree preferred● Minimum 10+ years of strategic planning, and project management or operational roles within sport● Deep understanding and expertise of the sport of volleyball, as well as international and US governing bodies● Sport business operation experience and exposure at all levels, including professional leagues or teams, federations, universities, and grassrootsCapability & Other Personal Characteristics: ● Enjoys and thrives working in a busy and dynamic environment● A collaborator with strong communication, team building, and interpersonal skills● Solutions orientated, ability to work independently to resolve issues, knowing when to escalate potential issues and challenges● Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skillsLocation: ● Flexibility to work anywhere in the US (primarily over Zoom and digital platforms) with willingness to travel for site visits and other business-related needs.● Reports to the COO, Pro based in the Bay Area,California We strongly encourage people of color, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and non-binary people, veterans, parents, and individuals with disabilities to apply.
