Job Summary This level dental assistant requires skills with fourhanded dental delivery. Many encounters will require independent judgment at this level, with direct supervision of the dentist. Employee must demonstrate a willingness to continue education with formalized dental education programs through the Florida Dental Association.Responsibilities and Standards Demonstrate knowledge of basic dental assistant duties Assist dentists with all clinical and clerical procedures Demonstrate knowledge of all aspects of chair side assisting and front desk procedures Update existing treatment plans and enter new treatment plans Prepare patients for dental exam, including taking dental and medical history and charting, including blood pressure, pulse, height and weight Makes chart entries under the direct supervision of the dentist and assures completion of forms and signatures Record required Meaningful Use data in electronic dental record Accurately take digital x-rays Prepare patients for operatory procedures Discharge and review post-operative instructions with patients Expanded Functions o Coronal Polishing o Promotes an education supportive of good dental and general health by demonstrating good oral hygiene instruction, questioning patients to confirm home care, instructing patients in techniques of flossing and brushing o Accurately pour and trim laboratory casts o Accurately place and remove matrices and wedges o Accurately apply topical fluorides and varnishes o Remove excess cement from dental restorations and appliances o Accurately apply pit and fissure sealants o Placement of orthodontic separators o Placement of post-extraction dressings o Demonstrates knowledge of suture removal o Accurately takes impressions and bite registrations o Accurately pours impressions to make space maintainers and temporary crowns o Fabricates temporary crowns o Demonstrates knowledge of endodontic instruments, materials, and equipment o Demonstrates knowledge of endodontic procedures o Placement of temporary restorations Demonstrate knowledge of office procedures o Acknowledge and / or assist anyone in contact with the department in a pleasant, helpful manner o Accurately enter and update data in the computer system o Accurately reviews daily schedule to set-up appropriate trays and instruments o Demonstrate knowledge of proper, safe, efficient usage of basic office equipment o Demonstrate ability to respond to bomb threats, fire scenarios, and emergency situations o Demonstrate the ability to effectively interact with parents and children (birth-adolescents) in the office setting Understand all HIPAA and OSHA requirements and infection control procedures o Demonstrate knowledge and practice of instrument cleaning and sterilization procedures o Perform all sterilization and autoclave procedures o Accurately perform monthly autoclave monitoring, records data on log sheets, and maintains MSDS book o Prepare instrument trays and operatory for procedures o Protect patient confidentiality per policies and procedures Assist with inventory and supply ordering Retrieve records and complete daily encounter forms Attend continuing education seminars and classes, CPR and Lunch & Learns Develop knowledge of electronic dental record, Imaging and other organization programs Knowledge of dental terminology Maintain logs of appliances (i.e. space maintainers) in progress Will be required to float among locations Will be required to float to hospitals to assist Residents in OR Job Posted by ApplicantPro
