The CSF-DC Out-of-School Time (OST) Instructor is responsible for developing and implementing the OST classroom curriculum to include, but not limited to, English/Language Arts and Literature (all levels, grades 9-12), Math (Algebra (I and II), Geometry, and Pre-Calculus/Calculus), and Science (Biology, Chemistry, and Physics). The Instructor assists and facilitates non-academic programming and activities, including accompanying students on field trips and cultural experiences. The assignment begins in mid-May and includes bi-weekly meetings and curriculum development sessions in advance of the summer program. This is a temporary (contracted) position beginning Monday, May 15, 2023, and ending on Friday, August 4, 2023. PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES : Develops appropriate grade level curricula, lesson plans and assessments. Develops and implements daily classroom activities and relevant student projects. Adapts lesson plans to suit diverse student needs and learning styles. Provides prescriptions for students at the end of summer programming outlining areas of need for academic improvement. Provides visible leadership and hands-on programmatic support for OST-based activities and services. Helps to build a positive learning community among CSF-DC Scholars by maintaining high classroom standards and high expectations for student learning. Collaborates with CSF-DC staff, school staff, administrators and external partners to ensure and maintain CSF's on-going positive relationships with its summer program partners. Communicates information to students clearly, respectfully, and with an emphasis on motivating and inspiring all program participants. Performs other instructional duties as assigned. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES : Knowledge of adolescent development principles and positive youth development theories. Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook). Ability to maintain professionalism in unexpected situations. Ability to work collaboratively with other instructors, CSF-DC staff, school staff and other partners. Coach and mentor students in one-on one settings and in groups. Ability to effectively communicate and develop positive relationships with students. Relate well and respect cultural and human diversity. Be flexible, solve problems effectively, and prioritize tasks. Must be available for all pre-program training and orientation. sessions from May 15, 2023, through August 4, 2023. QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE POSITION : Bachelor's degree required; degree in education or a unique content area of need (ELA, Math, STEM, Arts, and Microsoft Imagine Academy). Three years teaching experience in grades 7-12. Experience working with diverse populations and age groups, with particular emphasis on working with young people in grades 7-12.
