NYOS Charter School HS Special Education Educational Assistant Job Description (Essential Academics) Job Title: High School Special Education Educational Assistant Reports to: Secondary Principal Service time: 40 HRS per week About NYOS NYOS, an acronym for "Not Your Ordinary School", is an open-enrollment public charter school located in North Austin. NYOS provides a unique learning experience where all students strive for academic excellence in a close-knit community. We strive to build leaders to serve and succeed in a global society. NYOS encourages excellence through service learning, brain-based teaching, and low student-teacher ratios. Primary Role: This position supports Grades 9-12. Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university preferred Texas Teaching certification preferred Special Education experience preferred Major Responsibilities and Duties: Collaborate with General Education and Special Education teachers to support students' instructional needs; teach socially acceptable behavior, employing techniques such as behavior modification and positive reinforcement; establish and maintain procedures to ensure order among students. Assist in maintaining accurate and complete student records as required by laws, district policies, and administrative regulations. Provide differentiated instruction in support of students' goals and objectives in one or more subject areas such as English, mathematics, or science. Use technology and other equipment and materials to supplement instruction as necessary. Support administration of standardized tests as required. Other duties as assigned. Professional Requirements: Maintain strict confidentiality regarding information concerning students, parents, staff, and classroom incidents. Adhere to ethical and legal standards and model professional and responsible behavior. Participate in approved professional development to improve skills related to job assignments. Follow NYOS standard communication, interaction, and discipline procedures as outlined in the NYOS Staff Handbook. Work Environment: This job operates in a school environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines. Physical Demands: This position is very active and involves standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day. The employee must frequently lift and move items over 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
