The Rehabilitation Hospital of Indiana (RHI) provides quality rehabilitation services to those facing life-changing injuries or illnesses. We specialize in the areas of brain injury, stroke, spinal cord injury, and complex medical conditions. RHI is the only Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Model System in the state of Indiana and one of only 16 in the U.S. RHI has two locations. Our facility on the northwest side of Indianapolis provides inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation services to patients 15 years of age and older. Our facility on the north side of Indianapolis specializes in outpatient, interdisciplinary brain injury services for ages 15 and older as well as serves clientele with neuro and ortho-physical therapy needs and pediatric vision needs. Summary/Purpose of Job This position is responsible for receiving of merchandise, preparation and appropriate storage of central stores stock, and selection and delivery of such to the departments served by materials management. This individual maintains, labels and rotates stock, performs cyclical inventory counts and is able to perform independently the function of restocking and delivery in the cart exchange system and tasks. Understands and exhibits the principals of service excellence, leads by example, and mentors' others in the performance of their assigned duties. Additionally, understands that every employee is responsible for exhibiting exceptional customer service by answering call lights on the nursing unit and if not able to assist personally, will inform the appropriate employee regarding the patient's need. Understands the role of employee's individual position regarding HIPAA requirements and level of access to Protected Health Information as defined in HIPAA hospital-wide policies. Understands that it is the responsibility of every RHI staff member to provide patient safety as a priority response according to RHI evidence-based practices. Encourages patients to be actively involved in their own care as patient safety strategy. Primary Job Duties/Essential Functions Performs all tasks associated with the receipt of merchandise addressed to the hospital with exception of pharmaceutical and food products. Prepares all outgoing packages for hospital including contacting for pick up & maintaining files & shipping supply levels. Prepares items for central stores stock and places in the appropriate location in the department. Maintains order of inventory in central stores by fronting shelves, cleaning, rotating stock, labeling and re-labeling. Selects and delivers all stock and non-stock items to the appropriate departments based on orders and predetermined par levels. Has complete knowledge of the floor stock system, is able to perform the daily restocking service accurately to the units and performs this function without supervision. Maintains all aspects of office supply inventory. Adds & deletes items from the Office Supply asset account. Performs asset tagging tasks. Performs accurate monthly cycle counts for all asset items. Participates in Year End supply inventory process and documentation. Uses appropriate technique in performing duties to avoid or minimize accidents and injury related to unsafe practice. Proactively seeks information and resources, including the Environment of Care Manual, to aid in safe performance of duties to contribute to the RHI culture of safety. Participates in continuous quality improvement/program evaluation activities and observes measures to ensure Hospital, Joint Commission, CARF, and other quality standards and regulations are met. Employee is focused on providing customer satisfaction (including, but not limited to, patients, co-workers, visitors, vendors and physicians) as a primary goal/outcome of all interactions; places customer first in the performance of job duties and responds to needs in a timely manner as evidenced by the absence of legitimate customer complaints. Other duties as assigned. Peripheral Job Duties Answers telephone and assists walk-ins to the office. Assists with order calling and expediting as needed, files manual purchase orders and appropriately receives, distributes and files recall notices. Assists manager and assistant with vendor contacts for missing merchandise and contributes to special projects. Responsible for assigning work to department volunteers and monitoring for satisfactory task completion. Coordinates transport of items needed at off-site locations NRC & Carmel. In Performing Primary Jon Duties/Essential Job Functions Errors may result in fiscal losses or incorrect processing for payment due to poor labeling, handling or damage to packaging. Fiscal errors may also result from inaccuracies of cycle counts and asset tracking. A direct impact of errors may be the failure of provision of supply as needed for patient quality service creating both patient and staff dissatisfaction. In Performing Peripheral Job Duties Errors may create disorganization of files and inefficient processing of recall and missing merchandise notices. Knowledge Skills and Abilities This position requires a thorough knowledge of the receiving and distribution functions. The incumbent must demonstrate good communication skills, attention to detail, and must have an ability to work well without supervision. Application of team concept with demonstration of good customer service skills to external customers and interdisciplinary team members are paramount. Experience One year receiving and warehouse experience, preferably in the medical arena or RHI clinical work experience instead of receiving and warehouse experience. Experience with supply distribution and general purchasing task preferred. Special Training, Licensure, Credentialing None. Education This position requires a high school diploma or equivalent.
