Title: Summer Camp Educator Position R eports To: Offsite Programs Manager & Out-of-School Time Programs Coordinator Direct Reports: Summer Camp Interns and V olunteers FLSA : Seasonal, up to 40 hours/week, depending on programs Salary /Hourly Rate: $ 16.00 Position Summary:   The Summer Nature Camp Educator is responsible for supporting summer camp classrooms by leading programming, monitoring up to 25 learners in grades K-5, and otherwise responding to the needs of the camp day at the direction of the S ummer Camp Lead Educator. Essential Functions & Responsibilities: Assist in teaching interactive nature-based summer camps to youth, ages 5 - 12 Work collaboratively with co-counselors to assist in providing and implementation of camp curriculum and activities as needed Use live animals to demonstrate science-based concepts to camp participants Follow all policies & procedures to meet the State license requirements Effectively managing classroom of 25 children Attend required branch and facility meetings as needed Assist Seasonal Camp Lead Educators throughout the camp day Competencies: Build relationships Teamwork and cooperation Detail-oriented Communication skills Department knowledge Decision-making Initiative Time management skills Qualifications/Experience: Pursuing or interest in pursuing or holding a degree in education, environmental sciences, or related field Basic knowledge and interest in the environment and wildlife Comfortable interacting with school-aged children and parents Enthusiastic, fun, and patient Previous experience working with groups of school-aged children in a camp, school, or childcare setting Previous experience working with groups of school-aged children in a camp, school or child care setting Prior experience working with individuals of different ages and abilities Additional Requirements: Valid Driver's License Certified in First Aid & CPR (training may be provided) Subject to background check, CBI/FBI reports, and all Child Care License Requirements At least one year's experience working with individuals of different ages and abilities At least one year's experience leading a group of individuals or children Multilingual candidates preferred Must be able to work the following dates: Summer Camp Training: May 30th - June 2nd Summer Camp: June 5 th - August 11 th , Monday through Friday Mandatory Camp Debrief - after last day of camp: 8/11 *Dinner Provided* Additional onboarding dates may be required Additional meetings may be required Work Environment / Physical Requirements: While performing the responsibilities of this position, these work environment characteristics are representative of the environment the position will encounter. The employee is occasionally required to reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
