The ideal candidate for this position enjoys legal research and writing and is willing to attend court appearances. Starting salary: Commensurate with experience, plus State of Florida employee retirement and insurance options, attorney benefits, paid holidays, and leave. The Office of the State Attorney for the Ninth Judicial Circuit is represented by The Honorable Andrew A. Bain and serves Orange and Osceola counties in Central Florida. The mission of the State Attorney's Office for the Ninth Judicial Circuit is to promote public safety by using data-driven methods to hold offenders accountable, provide restorative justice for victims, and redirect children and people in need of services, in an effort to build stronger, safer communities. We are guided by the American Bar Association's standards for the function of a prosecutor, with a special emphasis on 3-1.2 (a), (b), (e), (f). Applicants must be a member in good standing with The Florida Bar. Applicants must possess a strong interest in being a trial lawyer and have excellent communication and critical thinking skills. Applicants must have the time management and organizational skills required to manage a large volume caseload. Applicants must be able to work independently and as a team member. Must be able to legally work in the US without additional immigration authorization, employer sponsorship request or other assistance from the employer. SAO9 is NOT currently accepting applications from non-Florida Bar members. Essential Functions: The following duties are normal but are not limited to this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned. Manage docket of 2-3 divisions Excellent writing and research skills a must. Craft litigation strategy. Consult with victims and next of kin in compliance with Marsy’s law Direct factual post-conviction re-investigations Timely author responses to Motions pursuant to FS: 3.850 (Motion to Vacate; Set Aside; or Correct Sentence), 3.800(a) (Motion to Correct Illegal Sentence), 3.850(b) (belated appeals), or 3.853 (Motion for Postconviction DNA testing, depending on how it is plead) Conduct legal research when necessary. Provide legal advice and support to office as needed. Conduct evidentiary hearings, resentencing, and/or plea conferences in PCU court and regular division. All other case related tasks as needed. Preference will be given to anyone with any prior appellate, extraordinary writ, or postconviction experience. Minimum Qualifications: Juris Doctor Degree required. Member of The Florida Bar. The ideal applicant should have knowledge of criminal law and procedure, exceptional interviewing skills, and a proficient decision-making ability. Any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must be able to legally work in the US without additional immigration authorization, employer sponsorship request or other assistance from the employer. Specific License or Certification Required: Must be a member in good standing of The Florida Bar.
