Position Summary The Small Farm Specialist will assist the Innovative Small Farmers' Outreach Program (ISFOP), make farm visits, provide research, promote assistance to Urban Agriculture, and conduct workshops. This position will serve Cape Girardeau city and county. Essential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities Conduct farm visits and provide research-based education, information, and training. Assist with all activities for accomplishing the program's goals and objectives. Write educational materials, grant proposals, and reports. Supervise 2-3 Farm Outreach Workers in the region. Keep farmers informed of latest innovations in agriculture, keep client database updated. Promote USDA programs, inform and assist small farmers with grant opportunities. Promote best farming practices, food safety, sustainable agriculture, and USDA programs. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Experience working with diverse audiences. Excellent spoken and written communication skills. Ability to work well on teams. Proficiency in Spanish language is preferred. Education and Experience Bachelor of Science in Agriculture or other closely related field is required. Farming and related experience is preferred.
