Bell County Sheriff's Department is accepting applications for a full time Communication Specialist/call taker position. Starting pay $33,218.00 per year/$15.9090 per hour, plus benefits of holiday pay, sick leave pay, retirement, and paid health/dental care insurance. See Benefits for more in depth information. Duties The Communications Specialist serves the community as a member of the team trained and organized to serve as the link between emergency calls for help, and the first response teams that provide the needed assistance. Successful candidates develop a rapid and accurate sense of call interpretation and decision-making/problem solving skills. Processing multiple calls simultaneously, establishing the priority status of the call and initiating a sequence of time sensitive actions are all part of this team's responsibilities. To be successful in this environment, candidates must enjoy working in a technology-heavy environment that demands excellence at every level. The work is fast paced, challenging, time-sensitive, and provides the candidate with an opportunity to truly impact the lives of others. Shift work may be required outside of assigned shift. Overtime and shift subject to changes as needed. Required Must successfully pass an approved TCOLE telecommunicator academy. Technical Training will be provided Qualifications Must meet Texas Commission on Law Enforcement requirements: read more here . Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and have a high school diploma or GED. Applicants selected will be emailed with detailed instructions throughout the process. Criminal background check is required. Applicants will go through phases to be considered for employment: background check, interview and Conditional Offer of Employment. The Conditional Offer of Employment is not a guarantee of employment but another testing phase for consideration of the job performances. TCOLE Disqualifiers Persons that have been convicted of an offense above the grade of Class B misdemeanor in the past ten years will not be considered for employment. Convictions of Class A or Felony cannot be considered. Any level Class Misdemeanor or Felony involving Family Violence will not be considered. Applicants discharged from military service under conditions due to misconduct will not be considered for employment. NOTE: length of time for this process will vary due to differences with each applicant. Do not call to check on status.
