Position Title: Server/Network Admin - IT Assistant, Level 3 (Temp to Perm) - CUNY Advanced Science Research Center Job ID: 27811 Compensation: $89,639/year Closing Date: March 19, 2024 CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION The City University of New York's newest facility, the Advanced Science Research Center (ASRC), boasts the success of the University's rich past, and the determination to become a national leader in visionary scientific research in the future. With a focus in the fields of Nanotechnology, Photonics, Structural Biology, Neuroscience, and Environmental Sciences, the ASRC will operate as a nucleus of a university-wide science enterprise, fostering the development of an integrated research network that brings together faculty, students, and post-doctoral fellows from CUNY's colleges across the five boroughs. This state-of-the-art facility houses a staff of elite scientists and leaders who seek to break down the walls between disparate but increasingly inter-related disciplines of applied science. Under the direct supervision of the Assistant Director of System Services Infrastructure, the ASRC Server/Network Administrator is the Operational Administrator for the ASRC's Corporate IT infrastructure. They will provide the first-tier customer support for backend ASRC Research infrastructure and consult with ASRC management and researchers regarding IT infrastructure issues. This position requires the incumbent to work on site. Duties include but are not limited to: Administers server hardware, server software, middleware, SAN storage, network and security devices, telephony, etc. for the ASRC. Provides support for Client Services technicians with ASRC based IT backend infrastructure. Acts as a primary customer service provider for ASRC management and researchers for IT backend infrastructure. Collaborates with IT Senior Administrators and vendors to troubleshoot, install and upgrade, monitor, maintain, backup, and report on, the ASRC based IT backend infrastructure. Fulfills role of a technical liaison concerning ASRC needs and requirements with other CUNY IT teams, vendors, and consultants. Fulfills role of technical expert including on new developments in technology deployed in research facilities. Develops and maintains various system and user documentations, IT practices, and policies. Assists the ASRC Administrative team to facilitate processes, projects, installations, and formulation of operating policies and procedures for applications and other technology services. Notifies clients of system and service status changes. Performs other duties as assigned which are reasonably within the scope of this job classification. General Duties I.T. Associates perform moderately complex professional work in technology-related disciplines. While areas of specialization vary, typically I.T. Associates work in areas such as development/programming, communications, technical support, or similar functions depending on the needs of the Information Technology area to which they report. Work tasks include resolving complex technology problems and serving as a technical resource. They have considerable latitude for independent initiative and judgment and may have supervisory responsibilities. I.T. Associates should demonstrate mastery of one or more technology-related disciplines.This job is in CUNY's Classified Civil Service. High School Diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent2. An equivalent of seven years of experience post-high school that can be met by one of the following: seven years of full-time work experience in a computer or technology related position; an Associate's degree plus five years of full-time work experience in a computer or technology-related position; a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution plus three years of full-time work experience in a computer or technology-related position3. Demonstrated English Language proficiency4. A Motor Vehicle Driver's license, valid in New York State, may be required for some, but not all positions.This job has three levels. To qualify for Levels 2 and 3, additional qualifications, such as education, experience, or certification relevant to the area of specialization are required. Other QualificationsPreferred Qualifications: 2+ years of experience configuring and managing ethernet networks, routers and switches Wi-Fi networks, VPN appliances, and firewalls 2+ years of experience configuring and managing Windows servers, VMware, SAN storage, and LINUX servers 2+ years of experience of network and server management and a strong background in technical troubleshooting procedures Excellent organizational skills, including the flexibility to work successfully with multiple priorities Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team Expertise in high performance computing, data visualization, high speed, networks, data storage systems, and cloud computing Experience in a research university setting Knowledge of VoIP telephony Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
