These lawyers will work in a dynamic and developing legal environment and will be committed to providing excellent legal services. Ideal candidates are those looking for a challenge and an opportunity to play a role in the implementation of an innovative organization focused on reducing the over-representation of Indigenous peoples in the justice system and in restorative justice, and who are interested in being on the front-line working in a fast-paced litigation-based office environment. Additionally, the ideal candidate will be interested in being part of a team that provides trauma-informed service within a collaborative environment. As this is a pro-bono law firm, we seek candidates that have a passion for the work and understand the limited resources. This Senior Counsel position will be responsible for legal matters related to breaches of court orders, driving offences, property related offences, violent offences, interactionual offences, crimes of dishonesty for bail, trial and resolution. In addition, the role will provide oversight and supervision on the legal files of Junior Counsel and students while reporting to the Program Director. The Senior Counsel will provide greater access to justice and improve the effectiveness of legal services to all Indigenous persons in a culturally appropriate manner in all aspects and areas of the justice system, including the right to timely, efficient, and quality legal advice. To ensure the rights of Indigenous people are addressed at the earliest stages of encountering the justice system. Key Outcomes: Indigenous peoples will receive immediate, timely and culturally.
