POSITION SUMMARY: ROMWalks, a flagship program of the ROM's Department of Museum Volunteers (DMV), brings Toronto's dynamic neighbourhoods to life through engaging guided walking tours. Initiated in 1980 as an outreach effort during the Museum's renovation, ROMWalks delve into the city's diverse history, architecture, arts, and education from May to October, offering free and paid English and French tours and exclusive walks for ROM Members. We are seeking passionate volunteers to lead these enriching walks. As a ROMWalks Guide, you're not just a guide but an ambassador of Toronto's heritage, engaging visitors with your enthusiasm, storytelling prowess, and humour. Your role transforms each tour into a memorable journey through the city's streets and stories. Ideal candidates are energetic, personable, and skilled in bringing history and culture to life. RESPONSIBILITIES: Training Program Complete a 6-month provisional term to become a DMV volunteer including: Successfully completing a 1-hour Abuse, Harassment, and Discrimination workshop. Participate in volunteer training at ROM. Attend DMV meetings and activities at ROM. Participate in a ROMWalks training program every Saturday for 6 weeks starting in February, with weekly sessions covering: Overview of Toronto's history. Techniques for describing architectural features. Skills for effectively leading a walk. Crowd safety and management strategies. Guiding and Learning Lead one outdoor.
