The Municipality of North Cowichan (population 31,900) is located in the beautiful Cowichan Valley on Southern Vancouver Island, between Nanaimo and Victoria. The Municipality of North Cowichan invites applications from candidates with the proven skills, qualifications and abilities for the position of Guard on a casual, on-call basis. This position works out of the North Cowichan-Duncan RCMP Detachment. If you are self-motivated, looking to take on a new challenge where you can make a difference, enjoy both responsibility and accountability with one of British Columbia's most inclusive and environmentally conscious municipalities, we look forward to receiving your application! The successful candidate will be required to work 12-hour shifts, including weekends and evenings, and will be responsible for guarding prisoners, preparing and maintaining related reports. This position may be exposed to graphic and explicit subject matter and may be required to testify in court. Deployment to other duties may be required from time to time. Required Skills, Qualifications and Abilities: Completion of Grade 12. Possession and maintenance of a valid Class 5 B. C. Driver's Licence; a satisfactory current driver's abstract will be required. Considerable knowledge of and demonstrated skills in computer word processing applications and equipment. Minimum typing speed of 40 wpm. Experience in law enforcement, mental health or emergency response. Strong knowledge of business English, spelling, punctuation, composition, and commonly used RCMP terminology, and of office practices and procedures. Ability to problem-solve.
