Plant Technical Services Manager

A local lubricants manufacturer is looking for a full-time, experienced Plant Technical Services Manager to join our team. The candidate will be responsible for managing activities related to quality control and safety within the plant in accordance with established guidelines. The candidate should be a strong leader with an analytical mind and excellent interpersonal communication skills. Job Duties and Responsibilities : Develop tests and testing procedures for new blends and products to ensure customer specifications for product quality can be measured and verified. Maintain current manuals and files of test results, customer specifications, operational procedures, safety policies, Safety Data Sheets, etc. Respond to customer requests for technical and quality-related product information and assistance. Assist in the development of blending procedures and supervision of blending operations to ensure customer specifications for product quality are met. Assist with meetings of personnel involved in improving safety conditions, encouraging suggestions for safety improvements and walk-through inspections of facilities. Enter data required to establish process controls; calculate process control limits, interpreting and responding to charts and providing information to customers as required. Assist with the completion, submit and file copies of reports required by governmental agencies such as EPA and OSHA. Supervise personnel, to include training, assigning and checking work to ensure compliance with guidelines; analyze and resolve work problems or assist workers in solving work problems; recommend personnel actions such as hiring, rate increases, promotion, and disciplinary measures. Perform a wide variety of laboratory tests to ensure customer specifications are met. Monitor inventory of inspection supplies and equipment and submit requisition to replenish. Prepare and control departmental annual budget. ISO Management Representative: Oversee the processes needed for the quality management systems needed for establishing, implementing, and maintaining an ISO certified quality process is established. Report to top management on the performance of the quality management system and any need for improvement. Promote awareness of customer requirements throughout the company. Participate in weekly production meetings to discuss and coordinate production, back-orders, and plant activities. Review production schedules and priorities with management. Collaborate and confer with production schedulers and blenders to determine raw material needs. Place orders for oils and additives required to meet production goals. Coordinate delivery times of raw materials and placement of rail cars. Requirements : Broad knowledge of chemistry equivalent to a complete college or university education. Three years of experience in a similar or related position with industrial laboratory experience. Ability to apply principles to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form. Ability to deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Ability to apply concepts of calculus, algebra and statistics. Ability to read scientific and technical journals and financial reports. Ability to apply the theory, principles and methods of effective and persuasive speaking. Ability to physically stand, bend, squat, and lift up to 30 pounds. Good interpersonal skills and communication with all levels of management. Must be willing to submit to background check and drug screening to be considered for this position.
