About Fashion Institute of Technology: The Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), an internationally renowned college of art and design, business and technology of the State University of New York, invites applications for the position of Part-time Technologist B in the Photography Department. Job details: Work as part of a team of department technologists to assist faculty and students with safe and appropriate equipment and lab usage. Candidates will be responsible for preparing and carrying out demonstrations of digital equipment, best practices and workflow in the classroom setting. Candidates will also be required to act as a digital technician for in class shoots, trouble shooting camera, hardware, software or workflow problems. Candidates will also be responsible for overseeing the 2 digital labs, and be available for hardware, software and printing troubleshooting. Candidates will also be required to work with the Tech A's as necessary to assist in the distribution and receipt of digital and analogue equipment to students and faculty, requiring the proper use of the department's inventory database to check for outstanding (unreturned) equipment on a daily basis contacting any delinquent students to ensure return. General maintenance and minor repair of all photographic equipment on an as-needed basis. Candidate will work with equipment coordinator and local sales reps in acquiring new equipment. Qualifications: A Bachelor's degree in Photography from an accredited post secondary institution of learning and a min of 3 yrs of related professional photography background; or completion of 2 years of studies in Photography from an accredited post secondary institution of learning and six years of related professional expertise required. Related professional experience includes: knowledge of commercial analog and digital photographic tools and techniques in the areas of advertising, catalogue, and editorial photographic image usage; background with continuous lighting, both portable and studio flash units. Candidates must possess a working expertise of all digital camera formats: Medium Format Digital backs, 35mm DSLR, and prosumer Point and Shoot cameras for both still and video capabilities. Candidates must also have operational knowledge of all analogue camera systems, including 35 mm, medium format and view cameras. Background with handing film processing chemistry for black and white film, print processing and finishing, and a basic understanding of digital printmaking is required in order to offer advice to students if asked.Candidates must be able to work with faculty and students in the classroom to demonstrate and trouble shoot digital camera systems, computer hardware and software. Expertise to make minor repairs to analog cameras, shutters, lenses and to lighting equipment is also required. Background organizing and implementing equipment room procedures and tracking systems. Must be proficient in utilizing ms word processing and spreadsheet software. Expertise to work as part of a team and communicate instructions, methods, and techniques for proper equipment usage. Must possess and demonstrate excellent customer service skills, tact, resourcefulness and the expertise to work with a diverse constituency. Expertise to work in a campus environment with a student centered approach.
