About Parents for Public Schools of San Francisco: Since 1999, Parents for Public Schools of San Francisco (PPS-SF) has supported student success by developing strong family-school partnerships, strong parent relationships, and broad community support for public education. PPS-SF has served over tens of thousands of families throughout San Francisco from a multitude of diverse backgrounds, and works to ensure its services are accessible in Chinese (Cantonese and Mandarin), English, and Spanish.Research has shown that "when schools collaborate together with families to support learning, children tend to succeed not just in school, but throughout life." (Henderson & Berla, 1994). Parents for Public Schools of San Francisco is on the front lines educating parents and the broader community about the benefits and importance of having a public school system that residents across San Francisco invest in. The crux of the work of PPS-SF is to ensure families and students across San Francisco are supported through their public school journey. PPS-SF meets parents where they are to educate, engage, and connect families and the broader community on how they can actively participate in the ongoing improvement of our city's public school system.Engage: PPS-SF engages San Francisco families and community leaders to advocate for efforts at the classroom, school, and district levels that support the academic, social, and emotional success of all children in our public school system.Educate: PPS-SF educates San Francisco families to make fully informed decisions by breaking down school enrollment and governance systems, dispelling myths about our public school system, and helping parents understand the breadth and depth of their options.Connect: PPS-SF strengthens community support for public education by building bridges between communities, fostering collaboration and partnership, creating better pathways to info, and embracing the diverse backgrounds of San Francisco families. Job details: More than 14,000 students applied to San Francisco's public schools during the 2014 - 2015 application period. Parents for Public Schools of San Francisco delivers over 100 enrollment workshops at preschools, schools, libraries, and other locations to hundreds of parents to inform and educate them on San Francisco's enrollment process. Our aim is to ensure parents are positioned to make fully informed decisions about their public school application process.Job assignments include: PREPARE CONTENT: Prepare and gather materials (i.e., PowerPoint presentation, handouts, etc.) for each event FACILITATE PROGRAM: Deliver each workshop and liaise with site contacts MANAGE LOGISTICS: Contact assigned workshop locations to confirm event and logistics; return sign-in sheets, evaluations, and other materials collected at a given workshop Skills and Requirements: In addition to having a familiarity with San Francisco's current public school application process, applicants must have the following:1. Excellent oral/written correspondence abilities2. Dynamic public speaking expertise and comfort with facilitating and leading meetings, trainings, and workshops3. Strong management skills and detail oriented; able to meet deadlines4. Expertise to work autonomously at times, yet remain committed to being a member of a team of committed employees with a shared mission5. Bachelor's degree or equivalent background6. Flexibility to transport around San Francisco easily and on-time; car preferred in order to transport event supplies7. Deep sense of urgency to be a collaborative agent for the continuous improvement of San Francisco's public school system8. Cultural competency to engage with people across various lines of difference9. Exceptional goal orientation and an excellent strategic thinker with a proven work history of success10. Background creating and maintaining relationships with people from various backgrounds11. Strong cultural competency and self-awareness skills12. Make informed, timely decisions and use sound judgement to prioritize actions13. Good knowledge of San Francisco public education system14. Attention to detail15. Technology skills: Microsoft office Suite, basic internet skills, social media knowledge and comfortability
