AstenJohnson is looking to add a New Product Development Engineer at our Williston, VT facility. This is a 1st shift position, Mon-Fri. General Scope of Responsibilities: Research and develop polymeric materials and blends through systematic experimentation aimed toward developing improved products for our internal and external customer. Analyze new and competitive materials. Specific Responsibilities and Duties : Identify research projects and priorities with the Filament Innovation Team to meet the needs of AstenJohnson. Plan and conduct research projects that will strengthen AstenJohnson technical knowledge of plastic materials, contribute to the development of new products and build AstenJohnson Filaments' processing and product capabilities. Develop new tests, documentation and assist in the implementation of incorporating those tests into standard quality testing. Analyze published data relevant to our product and verify critical data by in house testing, characterize competitive samples, generate technical data for customer presentations, establish procedures, and modify processing procedures as needed. Produce product samples on the NPD Pilot line. Interact with outside testing facilities, universities, suppliers and customers. Perform internal ISO 9001:2015 audits and maintain ISO 9001:2015 certifications. Support of and adherence to the policies, philosophies, principles and objectives outlined in our company mission and quality statements. Performs other responsibilities related to job duties as assigned. Required Skills: Ability to read, write, communicate and comprehend written and verbal instructions. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and ERP systems. Theoretical knowledge of polymer science and technology. Demonstrated ability in planning and organizing multiple research projects in thermoplastic formulation, processing or characterization. Ability to draft and publish research reports that summarize research, draws conclusions and makes recommendations on future project needs and possible commercialization. Effective interpersonal skills including the ability to motivate change, Ability to work in a team environment and perform as a team leader. Ability to develop new test procedures and design equipment for specialized testing. Knowledge of synthetic fiber production, properties and end use desired. Education/Experience/Certification: Bachelor Degree in Chemical Engineering or Physical Science (Chemistry or Physics). Five+ years' experience with thermoplastic polymers or the equivalent preferred. Practical experience including maintaining ISO 9001 certifications, formulation, characterization, extrusion, processing and quality control testing of fiber or film preferred. Familiarization/experience/certifications with Lean Sigma concepts. An Equal Opportunity Employer M/F/D/V Working Conditions: Ability to bend, stoop and lift 55 pounds is required.
