This position performs skilled locksmith duties to include the repair, installation and keying of locks on all university buildings. The locksmith must develop and maintain a preventive maintenance program for the locking systems for the university. The position works under general supervision following standard practices and elevates cases to supervisor. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Maintains university keying and card access systems Installs and repairs locking systems, doors, door hardware, panic hardware, closers, access control, and automatic door systems. Makes new keys or duplicate keys for buildings, lockers, desks and cabinets using key cutting machine using BEST seven pin cores. Repairs, and performs preventive maintenance to locks, locking hardware, doors, closers, panic hardware, and automatic door systems. Performs repairs to doors and door frames to ensure proper closing and security. Manages vendors and contractors for door, access control, panic hardware, and automatic door system service, replacement, and repair. Determines door lock codes based upon master plan for doors and locks. Works jointly with others to complete projects and work orders. Maintains key records using a computer and Best Access System Keystone Software. Completes material requisitions for the purpose of maintaining an inventory of locks and associated hardware. Maintains a clean and safe working area. Performs other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: High School Diploma or GED required. One (1) year experience as a locksmith; Must be able to successful complete the 'BEST Locks' training course within 3 months of hire. Must maintain a valid driver's license, motor vehicle liability insurance and personal injury insurance, and complete the University Van Driver Training within 90 days of employment date. Must clear and maintain a favorable background investigation and clearance Must be able to work evenings and/or weekends as needed Must carry company provided cell phone and respond to calls on a 24 hour basis. Must be proficient in speaking, reading, and writing English; must have ability to read written instructions, warning labels, and SDS Sheets in English. Must possess legible handwriting, possess eyesight in both eyes corrected to 20/20 and normal hearing ability (may be corrected). Must observe safety precautions when working in the presence of extreme noise. Must possess mathematical ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in order to compute material costs as required for completion of work order form. Ability to work in an environment that requires a high level of security. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Able to successfully handle frustrating conditions such as limits on time, limited access to equipment, and dealing with uncomfortable customers. Able to carry 50 pounds up and down stairs Frequent standing, kneeling/squatting, bending/ stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting Frequent walking, climbing stairs/ladder/scaffolding, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, and overhead reaching; frequent driving Work outside and inside, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces; frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, insects, dust, toxic chemicals and fumes, noise, vibration, and electrical hazards; workaround gas lines; work around machinery with moving parts; may work in tight or enclosed spaces; may work alone; may work irregular hours The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
