ABOUT LONE STAR LEGAL AID Lone Star Legal Aid (LSLA) is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit law firm and its mission is to protect and advance the civil rights of low-income Texans by providing advocacy, legal representation, and community education that ensure equal access to justice. DESCRIPTION Types, files, and handles all clerical matters as assigned by the Managing Attorney of the corresponding unit. SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES Includes typing routine correspondence and standard pleadings, copying documents, opening files for new cases, and completing work on case files. This worker will also obtain info from the office database, check for conflicts of interest, maintain a list of open and closed case of each case-handler, and prepare closed files for storage. The Secretary assigned to the corresponding unit will coordinate attorney schedules, set hearing, depositions and other appointments for office attorneys. When needed, the secretary will answer the telephone as replacement for receptionist, monitor office supplies and maintain office equipment by replenishing toner in office copiers and printers. If bi-lingual this person will also interpret for clients when requested by office staff. MIN EDUCATION AND BACKGROUND High-school certificate or equivalent, computer background and expertise to operate the office equipment and software. Current expertise of office practices, procedures and equipment. MIN SKILLS AND ABILITIES This position mandates to type at least of 55 words per minute. Multi-lingual preferred/Spanish.
