We are working closely alongside a Local Authority in Southwark to assist with the appointment of a Legal Assistant , on a 3-month contract , highly likely to be extended at clients discretion. Rate of Pay : £20.00 per hour PAYE Summary: The role is to assist the planning and property lawyers in the Planning and Development team within Legal Services at Southwark Council (in the provision of the highest quality legal services to the Council. The Councils Legal Services department is based at Tooley Street in London Bridge. Responsibilities: Researching and assisting in title investigation and due diligence reports on title concerning sites which have been identified for redevelopment within the Councils housing redevelopment scheme. A range of landlord and tenant matters including the grant of new commercial leases, lease renewals, deeds of variation, deeds of surrender, licences and rent reviews. Planning Drafting and negotiating simple planning and highways agreements, enforcement matters, general planning and highways queries and assisting in the preparation for planning appeals (hearing and inquiries) and also CPO inquiries. Assisting senior lawyers in the team on various projects including inquiries and judicial review challenges and undertaking research. Qualifications: Education/Qualifications - A law degree or equivalent Evidence of Continuing Professional Training Understanding of Local Government Law Knowledge and Experience of Property and/or Planning and/or Highways Law Experience: Working in a Legal Environment Ability to Manage own Caseload Building Effective Working Relationships with Clients Please note: You should be available to work immediately or at a short notice.
