Position Overview The Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs is searching for an individual to take on the role of a Registered Nurse located at the Chicago Veterans Home. This position serves under general supervision of the Nursing Supervisor in accordance with established standards procedures and policies, plans and provides in-service training for professional and sub-professional nursing service staff. Job Responsibilities 25% Provides direct patient care. 25% Functions a lead worker of both professional and para-professional personnel. 15% Assist physician with rounds. 15% Reviews member medical records to assure that physician orders are posted, medication and member care treatment and observations are charted. 15% Verify number and classification of staff available to assign/reassign. 5% Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above Minimum Qualifications Requires graduation from an approved nursing education program resulting in an associate degree or Diploma in Nursing and two (2) years of progressively responsible professional nursing experience; OR a bachelor’s degree in nursing and one (1) year of professional nursing experience: OR a master’s degree in nursing. Requires licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Illinois. Conditions of Employment Requires ability to pass a background check. Requires ability to pass a drug screen and pre-employment physical. Requires ability to meet all agency vaccine/health-related policies and guidance. Requires ability acquire and maintain Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certificate. Requires the ability to utilize office equipment, including personal computers. Requires ability to attend seminars, conferences, and trainings to stay current on methods, tools, ideologies, or other industry related topics relevant to the job duties. Requires ability to travel in the performance of duties, with overnight stays as appropriate. This position is considered heavy work as defined by the U.S. Department of Labor (20 CFR 404.1567(d)). Heavy work involves lifting no more than 100 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Overtime is a condition or employment, and you may be required to work overtime including scheduled, unscheduled, or last-minute overtime.
