Instructional Coach Organizational Background: Bridge Prep is a unique, mission driven public charter elementary school on Staten Island dedicated to providing a student-centered educational option for our students, many of whom have dyslexia or other language-based reading difficulties, and who are in need of additional supports in order to meet academic proficiency. Our academic offerings are rooted in our commitment to the Science of Reading and multisensory instruction approaches which provide all students with an academic experience focused on academic and personal growth through targeted support. All our staff members share the same belief that all students can learn, regardless of their differing learning styles or academic ability, if they are provided with the necessary and appropriate learning environment. Position Description: Bridge Prep is seeking a full-time Instructional Coach to provide instructional support and coaching to all Bridge Prep teachers and classrooms as they work to ensure that each student is able to reach their academic potential and are on a path of academic growth. The Instructional Coach’s primary role is to work with teachers to support best practices in using data, provide analysis of school-wide trends in instruction, and make recommendations about potential next steps to address areas of need. The Instructional Coach is responsible for the following main areas: Observing instructional delivery and providing feedback to enhance and support the development of each teacher's content area(s); Supporting teachers in the design of units and lessons for the development of their year long curriculum; Analyzing data in order to modify curriculum and forms of assessment to meet students' needs; Working with the Academic Team to support sharing of best practices; and Working collaboratively with the Director of Teaching and Learning (DTL) and other members of the Academic Team to align all instructional practices with literacy-based consultants to support alignment of Orton Gillingham strategies across all contents. The Instructional Coach will work collaboratively with teachers on developing instructional strategies and intervention programs for struggling students which may include modeling lessons in classrooms, helping teacher or grade teams plan instruction, creating policies and procedures, leading family workshops, and facilitating professional development. Essential Functions: Increase student achievement by building instructional capacity of classroom teachers. Conduct professional development activities, grade level team meetings, and teacher feedback sessions. Coordinate selection and organization of appropriate instructional and professional resources. Analyze and utilize assessment data to track and evaluate: Adjustments in teacher lesson plans and to instruction based on trends; Disaggregated student cohort data findings correlated to achievement and progress organized by subgroup, for monthly and annual reporting; Pupil Progress Team recommendations regarding promotional decisions, academic interventions and program changes, special education referrals, and/or the need for reevaluation of existing IEP services and accommodations; and Progress towards the school’s identified Academic Benchmarks according to the Charter Performance Framework via student growth and achievement data (broken out by full school, grade and classroom). Serve as the project lead for grants geared toward the improvement of classroom instruction. Collaborate with the DTL to plan and deliver pre-service summer professional learning for new and returning staff members, aligned to identified benchmarks and school goals in the area of instruction. Support the development of high quality, effective instruction across each grade and content, including observing and coaching teachers to improve instructional planning, teaching practice, small-group instruction, and the use of data, assessment, and instructional technology. Work with the Pupil Progress Team and school academic leadership to develop policies and school structures that facilitate the improvement of instruction and the appropriate interventions and supports for students. Reporting: This is a full time position reporting to the School Leader or his/her designee . Specific Qualifications: A Master's degree. A current New York State (or other state) elementary school teaching certification. A minimum of 4 years of elementary school classroom experience. At least 2 years of experience leading other teachers to achieve strong academic results. Experience increasing academic achievement for students with various needs at various academic levels. Proven experience in analyzing data and using results to modify instructional practices. Proven experience working with adult learners, coaching teachers, and delivering professional learning. Significant experience with curriculum development and daily lesson planning. Excellent writing, communications, and relationship-building skills.
