Description: Job title: HR Consultant Reports to: Director of Consulting Services Classification: Non-exempt, Part-time Summary: With a drive to delight our clients, our HR Consultant assists California employers in the day-to-day application of myriad employment-related laws and best practices. Serving as auxiliary support to HR professionals and business leaders, the Consultant researches and delivers timely and accurate work products and training. Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities Provides guidance and expertise for the full scope of HR functions including employee relations, compensation, organizational development, and management skills training. Provides expert advice to our employer clients regarding employee performance and employee relations issues. Researches options and best practices and makes recommendations to managers. Coaches managers on the interpretation and enforcement of employment laws, policies, and procedures. Stays up to date on employment laws, major court cases and best practices to offer relevant insights and advice. Conducts classroom and online seminar training on HR-related topics, including AB1825/SB1343. May be required to research or develop new classes related to HR or people management skills. Creates documents/letters/policies to communicate employers' practices or policies. Creates Silvers HR internal documents/templates to be used on the HR library. Researches to ensure such documents are in compliance with state and federal law. Consults with clients on their internal investigations by assisting in the creation of interview questions. After the investigation is completed by the employer, assists in the review of the investigation responses and the employer's ultimate decision on appropriate action to take. Conducts HR Practices Reviews to assess employers' HR practices within the required state and federal regulations. Prepares reports and offers training and resources to address HR needs. Facilitates the creation of customized employee handbooks using the Silvers HR template. Understands clients' business models and the status of their business to best advise on employment activities. Organizes and manages client work plans and deliverables in a timely manner. Proactively builds and manages client relationships and maintains credibility with senior management. Develops and leads client and internal projects, such as employee surveys and salary surveys, one-on-one HR training, job description creation, employment law updates and class development. Researches and writes articles for the Silvers HR e-zine publication. Creates timely and accurate reports, such as client activities and work status. Represents Silvers HR in community/industry organizations through attendance and serving on committees. Other Job Duties and Responsibilities Assists employers in talent acquisition strategies, with occasional recruiting assistance. Acts as an interim onsite HR Manager for employers. Assists in preparing EDD unemployment claim responses for employers. Appears at virtual wage and hour hearings on behalf of clients. Prepares position statements for DFEH or EEOC claims. Attends sales calls, assesses client needs and assists in the preparation of client proposals. Supports other internal consultants in client assistance. Other duties as assigned. Requirements: Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or Business Management, or equivalent experience required. SPHR or SCP required. HRCI CA certification highly preferred. Strong employee relations experience - minimum 10 years' experience. Comfortable giving employers advice on options and recommendations. Extensive working knowledge of federal and CA employment laws, including leaves of absence, wage and hour, and ADA/FEHA. Ability to interpret (often unclear) state and federal laws. Experience developing HR policy/handbooks to reflect employment laws and practices. Proven experience in researching CA employment laws and practices to recommend HR practices to clients. Comfortable outlining the options and pros/cons for each. Accomplished trainer, including 5 years' experience in harassment prevention training (AB 1825/SB1343). Extensive experience developing and conducting supervisory/management training skills. Experience in conducting internal workplace investigations. Ability to work a flexible schedule. Comfortable with technology. Proven spreadsheeting skills a must. Experience in recruiting, particularly HR professionals. Ability to travel within northern CA, primarily the Sacramento area. Must have reliable transportation. Excellent and tactful communication skills. Ability to work independently and collaboratively. Ability to deal with ambiguity and act without having full information. Effectively cope with change and make decisions or recommendations based on an assessment of key information. Maturity to work independently and communicate within a virtual team. Confidentiality is a must. Strong organizational skills are required for this position. Attention to detail is critical. High level of demonstrable skills using the Microsoft Office suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint. Ability to assess situations to determine in a timely manner when other experts or legal counsel should be consulted. Physical Requirements The Consultant often works from a remote location in clients' offices. Local travel is required including one day per week spent at the main office. The Consultant must be able to talk and hear over the phone and in person. Extended sitting and use of hands and fingers for keyboard work is required. The Consultant will occasionally stand, walk, reach, balance, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Vision abilities require driving, as well as close reading. Lifting/carrying is occasionally up to 25 pounds. Hours A part-time non-exempt Consultant will have hours set on an as needed basis or a set schedule.
