Idaho Conservation Corps - 640 HR National Park Service Hagerman Fossil Beds National Monument Hagerman, ID 16 Weeks: May 8, 2023, to August 25, 2023 Position Title: Interpretation and Education Intern - 640 HR Summary: The National Park Service is recruiting summer interns to provide educational and interpretation assistance at Hagerman Fossil Beds National Monument (HAFO). The members will serve with the interpretive and education teams within the Visitor Services Division. The park anticipates over 25,000 visitors this summer. Duties and Responsibilities: Major duties are related to learning and working alongside personnel in visitor services at Hagerman Fossil Beds (HAFO). The intern will communicate with the public about the natural and cultural resources of HAFO, staff the visitor center and provide orientation and information about HAFO and the National Park Service including recreational opportunities and park regulations. Specific activities include: Staff visitor center front desk. Deliver interpretive programs to the public. Research the natural and cultural resources of HAFO. Rove trails and contacting visitors. Required Qualifications: Ability to work outdoors, hike, and assist the public in remote settings and inclement weather on uneven ground. Willingness to work as part of a team in an outdoor setting Ability to give direction and talk to the public. Good written and verbal communication skills. A positive attitude. Desired Qualifications: Knowledge of Northern Rocky Mountain and Snake River Plain natural resources, paleontology, and plants College coursework in natural science or parks and recreation. Experience in presenting informational or educational talks to the public Duty Location: Duties are performed within the Hagerman Fossil Beds National Monument in Hagerman, ID. Terms of Employment: Intern will complete the 16-week program from May 8 to August 25. The member will average 40 hours of labor per week, minus holidays. Interns are responsible for providing their own housing and food. Personal transportation is needed. Program Benefits: Interns will earn $8,960.00 prorated monthly throughout the 16-week term of service. The intern may be eligible to receive a federal non-competitive Public Land Corps hiring authority upon completion of their term of service (a minimum of 640 hours of work must be accomplished to be eligible).
