Gardener Job Type: Full time, (35 hours per week / 52 weeks per year) Location: Sidcup Salary: A GBP 22,776 : A GBP 25,574 per annum The college is looking to appoint an experienced gardener who is self: motivated and has a structured approach. Key Responsibilities The successful candidate will provide a comprehensive reactive and proactive gardening service for the College Heritage Grounds. Provide efficient, high: quality, skilled maintenance of the college grounds. Seasonal maintenance of flowerbeds, shrubs, trees, hedges, herbaceous plants and annuals including new planting and weeding. Formative, seasonal and rejuvenative pruning of deciduous and evergreen trees, shrubs, climbers and hedges. Monitor and maintain healthy plant growth Water plants and lawn Use of garden machinery as necessary including mowers, strimmers, ride on mower, shredders, scarifiers and other machinery and hired plant. Machine and tool maintenance including the purchase of fuel for power tools Turf maintenance including treating, reseeding and mowing Rake and collect leaves and move to compost areas Keeping green spaces and walkways clear of debris and litter, empty external waste bins The appropriate, timely and safe use of pesticides Maintenance of paths, fences and other hard landscaping Treat and maintain external wooden seating Deal with pest problems that could harm plants, hedgerows and tress At scheduled intervals check waste water manholes to ensure clear Remove and treat snow and ice for safety of staff and students Manage / oversee a team of volunteer gardeners Help the estates team if required The work of the gardener is directly related to the Colleges Health and Safety policy and must be considered and operated within that context where appropriate and risk backssments followed. Skills Competent using hand and powered gardening tools Have a good knowledge of plants, shrubs and trees Understand planting/treatment seasons Benefits Competitive salary.
