Deputy Editor - Content Solutions - San FranciscoLocation: San FranciscoSummary purpose of job - Writing, editing, and contributor (writers and subject-matter-expert organizational skills - Communicate effectively with other members of the team, other departments and sponsors. Be aware of status of projects and communicate that details effectively and proactively to both the Editorial Director and the Finance department.Research and analysis- Ensure the integrity and objectivity of the analysis and interpretation of events and info, properly citing all sources in line with company policy and copyright laws. Editors are responsible for ensuring that writers'' copy contains no plagiarism of external sources. - Be able to speak compellingly and comfortably in front of large groups Performance measuresThe metrics against which the editor’s performance will be assessed include:- Create saleable ideas and sales proposals for client-sponsored content that is often research-based. This includes developing rationale and strategy for proposed deliverables for technology projects, as well as others, potentially in financial services, human capital and management consulting, as needed. - Experience dealing with senior-level business stakeholdersKnowledge and competencies- As an integral member of the Thought Leadership / Content Solutions Unit, the Editor supports the Editorial and Sales teams in producing compelling thought leadership sales proposals and research-based content marketing programmes, particularly focused on all aspects of technology and business. - Take responsibility initially for managing -- and communicating about -- discrete parts of large projects or entire projects, as assigned by the Editorial Director. - Educated to Bachelor’s degree and preferably Masters degree levelPrior work history- Attend meetings with clients and prospects, both in person and through conference calls - Help ensure that the marketing, promotion, distribution and social media aspects of the project are delivered to specification. - Ensure that the editorial integrity and objectively of The Economist Intelligence Unit is maintained at all times during the course of projectsCommissioning and managing writers and subject-matter experts- Fluent written and spoken English essentialPersonal attributes- Work with Creative Services and Social Media/Marketing teams to craft integrated proposals and deliverables that include infographics, cover photos, PowerPoints, videos, etc. - Public speaking expertise, comfort level and confidence - Immediately flag any issues that may require the involvement of senior editorial staffers or sales team. After 3-4 mnths of training, will be responsible for managing complete projects from proposal and client contracts through all stages of project management and earnings. - Confidence and diplomatic skills to handle unfamiliar topics with ambiguous input, as well as demanding clients - Collaborate together with other divisions of the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) -- of which the Content Solutions Unit (CSU) is 1 -- to ensure our full editorial capabilities are leveraged to deliver the most robust possible content. - Keep clients informed of developments and to respond to their concerns in a timely insightful fashion, and to proactively educate clients on why certain steps in the project management process are important. - Give meaningful and constructive feedback to writers, ensuring all queries are resolved to the satisfaction of your managerExternal representation and sales support- Proven expertise and willingness to learn new skill sets and assume new responsibilities and competencies. Skills and capabilities profileEducation and training- Provide a detailed brief to help writers to ensure the comprehensiveness and relevance of their input on deliverables - Success in managing costs for client sponsored-research projects. - Write and/or re-write material where original copy is sub-standard, incomplete or needs stylistic improvement. - Create outlines to assist writers and ensure high-quality deliverables - Ensure that the projects assigned to you are completed on time, on budget and maintain the high editorial standards of the Content Solutions Unit / Economist Intelligence Unit. - Self-starter, with the drive to set and reach ambitious goals and constantly raise the bar - Support editorial and sales teams in drafting of large-scale proposals for sponsored research projects in the Americas (US, Canada and Latin America), conducting the degree of experience and subject-matter expert research to generate stimulating, on-brand research ideas. Develop proactive proposals as directed. - Expertise to generate saleable content marketing solutions, research themes and program ideas. - Contribute actively to brainstorms and to the generation of research ideas that the sales force can take to market, particularly in the technology space - Present research or insights at events - Expertise to produce well-researched and written sales proposals that feature rich thought leadership ideation. - High degree of client interaction and verbal/written project management communication - Become well-versed in the editorial brand guidelines and Economist Intelligence Unit style guide and implement them across deliverables with consistency and accuracy. Project management- Specialist knowledge of and passion for technology and business issuesTechnical skills- Work with the editorial and research teams to research, draft and analyze on-line surveys related to sponsored research projects and interpret the results - Completion of thought leadership editorial proposals and projects based on high standards and strict deadlines - Evidence of project management and client management aptitude and proactivity - Enable the editorial team to meet earned revenue objectives by achieving high levels of editorial quality and rigorous attention to client, writer and colleague follow-up - Conduct the necessary desk research to ensure the accuracy, currency and comprehensiveness of the info in published reports. - Essential to be highly organized time manager and project manager - In this highly demanding role, which requires excellent ideation, editorial and client management expertise, as well as proposal-written correspondence skills, an Editor takes partial (and ultimately full) responsibility for several proposals and content marketing programmes simultaneously. - Expertise to use PowerPoint skillfully and to manipulate and analyze data in Ms excel requiredLanguages- Willingness to travel to present at client events or to support sales activity and earnings- The applicant should have previous strong tech content development experience and current understanding of the B2B technology industry, especially as it relates to cloud, big data, analytics, customer engagement, enterprise systems, mobile, and technology management services.Key accountabilities Ideating, editing and writing/rewritingThe Economist Group values diversity.
