Description:

Parkland County has an opportunity for a permanent, full-time Communications Advisor. Reporting to the Director, Communications, the Communications Advisor plans, develops and implements communications that advance the reputation and positive image of Parkland County to the public through timely, accurate and integrated communications of Parkland County’s plans, policies, programs and activities. The Communications Advisor is responsible for the County’s digital presence, including the County’s website, intranet, and social media accounts. This position will also work closely with Council and all levels of County staff providing information and guidance regarding emerging trends. This position also assists with issues management, public engagement, and media relations. The ideal candidate for this position will have the following: Post-secondary degree or diploma in Communications, Public Relations, or related field. A minimum of three to five years’ relevant experience in corporate communications, preferably in a public sector/municipal organization. Experience managing a corporate website using a content management system. Familiarity with Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy (FOIP) and the Municipal Government Act (MGA) is preferred. Membership with the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) or the Canadian Public Relations Society (CPRS) is an asset. Excellent interpersonal, public speaking and media relations’ skills are required. Excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills. Computer proficiency including Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Creative Suite and content management systems is required. Excellent organizational, time management and problem-solving skills. Valid Class 5 Driver’s License. Upon hire, a satisfactory current Driver’s Abstract must be provided.
