Position Summary A Brewer is responsible for all aspects of the brewing process including brewing, fermentation, and some cellaring activities. This employee must be a hardworking, responsible, and self-motivated individual with a passion for craft beverages and a desire to continue learning and growing within the industry. The candidate should also be a sociable person who is comfortable occasionally representing the brewery in public. Natural leadership, integrity, loyalty, and a good sense of humor are all factors in who we hire. This individual will report to the Brewing Manager and will play a key role in driving the company's high-volume needs and quality expectations. They will uphold Ballast Point's Code of Conduct, Employee Handbook, Mission, and Values in every aspect of their duties. What You'll Be Doing Wort production on our 150 and 300 BBL brewhouses Operation of hotside GEA Westfalia GSC 200 centrifuge Yeast handling and propagation management Cellaring duties including fermentation management CIP (clean-in-place) of brewhouse tanks and other equipment Diligently track and assess key quality parameters, including pH, temperatures, wort clarity, gravity, and DO (dissolved oxygen) Logging of all brewing related notes, including work with our Crafted ERP system Following SOP (standard operating procedure) for all applicable tasks Maintaining clean brewing practices in the brewhouse and cellar Assisting with minor preventative maintenance on brewhouse equipment Raw material management, including brew prep and operation of our conveyor/pneumatic offloading system What You'll Need 3 years' experience in a commercial production brewery or high-volume brew pub Passion for brewing beer, as well as the desire to push the boundaries of experimental brewing Understanding of quality assurance (QA) methods and techniques, laboratory operations, and basic knowledge of chemistry and biology, preferred Mechanical experience and aptitude, preferred Forklift operation or certification, preferred Effective organizational habits, a self-motivated work ethic, and critical thinking/problem solving skills Advanced understanding of all aspects of brewing including cellaring, yeast handling, CIP, and sanitization Schedule flexibility and a willingness to work night shifts, weekends, and overtime Computer literate with an understanding of Microsoft Office/spreadsheet programs Ability to multi-task Ability to work as part of a team Physical Requirements/Work Environment To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Compensation: Hourly Rate: $18.00 - 23.00 per hour The actual rate of pay is dependent upon many factors, such as: training, transferable skills, work experience, business needs, and market demands. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
