Reporting to the Director, Annual Giving, the Associate Director, Annual Giving executes the overall strategy and provides management and leadership for segmentation and execution of annual giving direct mail campaigns, digital communications, and the solicitation marketing plan/schedule, related technical processes and software, performance measurement, and goal setting. The Associate Director is responsible for the successful development and execution of at least four major fundraising campaigns annually, targeting defined affinity communities and focusing on particular gift designations, and oversees all aspects of special projects with a focus on the acquisition and retention of donors. They will provide the Director with data-driven, timely analysis of all annual giving outreach and suggest strategy adjustments to reach donor participation and dollar goals. ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES Responsible for setting annual fundraising and participation goals and strategies shaped by the incumbent's robust data modeling and strategic segmentation, in conjunction with past giving data and donor survey results, for Emerson's donors and prospects in partnership with the Director of Annual Giving. Responsible, in partnership with the Director, for the planning, execution, and assessment of the full fiscal year cycle of annual giving campaigns and outreach. The cycle will include at least four major fundraising campaigns, targeting defined affinity communities and focusing on particular gift designations, direct mail and email fundraising, project-focused crowdfunding initiatives, giving days, and alumni, parents, donors, and friends fundraising. Maintain warm liaison relationships campus-wide with leaders of programs benefiting from targeted outreach (e.g. Coaches and athletic administrators in the context of Athletics giving initiatives) as well as with leaders of relevant student groups (e.g. Student Government Association). Collaborate closely with members of the Development, Advancement Communications, Special Initiatives, and Alumni Association teams, as well as with the central Communications, Marketing, and Digital departments in developing campaigns, communications/marketing strategies, solicitation pieces, and collateral. Manage the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of an assigned prospect portfolio. Maintain accurate and timely records of campaign and constituent work in the database. May supervise and oversee one entry-level associate or student worker. Other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS - Qualifications are deemed required or preferred and represent what is needed to perform job effectively. Bachelor's degree in a related field required. 5-7 years of nonprofit, development, management, annual giving, marketing, public relations, or similar professional work experience required. Direct experience in higher education preferred. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES - May be representative, but not all-inclusive, of those knowledge, skills, and abilities commonly associated with the job. Knowledge of marketing tools and direct experience with annual giving solicitation marketing required. Knowledge of direct response fundraising, especially mail or marketing best practices, and metrics needed. Demonstrated project management skills, strong verbal and written communication skills, ability to work independently, attention to detail and follow-through, and excellent organizational skills are essential. Exceptional organizational skills, including demonstrated ability to effectively handle multiple tasks while paying close attention to detail. Excellent verbal and written communication skills; creativity, initiative, and independence in carrying out responsibilities; demonstrated planning, and teamwork. Direct experience with Raiser's Edge NXT preferred. Experience with crowdfunding and other fundraising platforms is also preferred. Ability to use data to drive program evolution and decision-making. Exceptional customer service competencies: developed active reflective listening skills; capacity for creative problem-solving; can-do attitude. Ability to lead and thrive in a fast-paced, fluid, entrepreneurial, and collaborative environment.
