Assistant Attorney General New Graduate - Class of 2022/2023 The Missouri Attorney General's Office is committed to providing the highest quality legal representation to the six million Missourians who call our State home. We are looking for new attorneys, recent graduates, or current 3Ls with excellent credentials who are interested in making a difference in the State to join our Class of 2022 or 2023 Assistant Attorneys General. Class positions are open to those licensed for less than one year, recent graduates, and current 3Ls. Class members start with other newly barred attorneys and receive additional training and individualized mentorship. Openings will be available in a variety of sections within the Civil and Criminal Divisions. The Civil Division sections include Financial Services (recovery of money owed to the state), Consumer, Litigation (civil defense), Labor (workers' compensation), and Governmental Affairs. The Criminal Division sections include Criminal Appeals, Medicaid Fraud, Public Safety (special prosecutions, habeas, and sexually violent predator unit), and Cold Case. New attorney positions are based in Jefferson City, Missouri. Anticipated start date for the Class of 2023 is mid-August 2023. Class of 2022 candidates may start at any time. The Office will also consider new graduates for an earlier start date as needed. Preferred experience/skills: Excellent legal writing Strong oral advocacy Commitment to public service Opportunities Offered: Courtroom and jury trial experience Handling litigation from case initiation through appeal Practice in many of the 114 counties in the state at all levels Practice in both the state and federal courts Administrative practices including workers' compensation and appearances before state agencies Some general counsel work for boards and commissions Defense of state agencies Motion and appellate practice Review of investigations Prosecution of criminal cases ranging from misdemeanor fraud to homicide Appellate practice The AGO Advantage: More experience and opportunities than a private law office Immediately work on cases that affect policy and have a statewide impact Attorneys are responsible for their own case load Mentoring and guidance from experienced attorneys and colleagues Regular interactions with clients, including state agency heads and general counsels State and health retirement benefits Eligibility for federal student loan forgiveness EOE Job Posted by ApplicantPro
