We are looking for an Accommodation Officer to work for the Housing and Communities Service department within Newport City Council at Newport. The role of an Accommodation Officer at Newport City Council involves managing temporary housing for homeless households, securing appropriate accommodation, monitoring residency duration, ensuring timely payment of charges, and evaluating homelessness policies. Role: Accommodation Officer Pay Rate: GBP15.63 per hour Location: Newport City Council, Civic Centre, Godfrey Road, Newport, NP20 4UR Job Type: Contractual Role, Initially for 6 months with the possibility of extension Hours: Full: time, 37 hours per week : Monday to Friday, standard office hours Responsibilities: 1 Manage temporary housing for homeless households and ensure suitable accommodation for eligible individuals. 2 Monitor residency lengths, arrange alternative housing as needed, and minimise rent arrears by ensuring timely payments. 3 Evaluate, improve, and implement innovative solutions in homelessness policies and practices. 4 Coordinate support services, provide housing advice, and maintain health and safety standards in accommodations. 5 Minimise void levels, oversee necessary repairs and reduce reliance on bed and breakfast housing. 6 Establish strong relationships with housing providers, and agencies, and contribute to the Councils homelessness strategy. 7 Maintain efficient records, achieve performance targets, and handle correspondence promptly for cost: effective operations. 8 Participate in meetings, follow up on decisions, act as a backup for higher roles, and contribute to the out: of: hours homelessness support team while strictly adhering to Council policies.
