5972 Database Administrator - * They are looking for four applicants for this position.* Local applicants preferred* Applicants MUST be able to interview in person in Foster City, CA. after a successful phone interview.* Must Have's: 8+ years hands-on background with Oracle Databases; 5+ years as a DBA; Unix shell scripting; Database performance tuning; pl/sql coding Nice to Have's: understanding around network functionality pertaining to database functioning Qualifications: 8+ years hands-on background with Oracle, with detailed understanding of internals GoldenGate replication (must have) Background with BACKUP/RECOVERY for Oracle databases (must have) Background with Oracle 11gR2, installation, performance tuning (must have) Bachelor degree in Engineering/Computer Science or equivalent (must have) Extremely honed problem-solving and debugging expertise (must have) Proficiency in BASH scripting (must have) and 1 of Perl/Python/PHP (nice to have) Familiarity with regular expressions for pattern matching and replacement (nice to have) Understanding of both OLTP and OLAP concepts (nice to have) Oracle Certifications valued, but not required (nice to have) Understanding of Java, MySQL (nice to have) Understanding of Hadoop and Map/Reduce concepts (nice to have) Major Position qualifications and Responsibilities: o Direct programmers and analysts to make changes to existing databases and database management systems o Direct others in coding logical and physical database descriptions o Review project requests describing database user needs to estimate time and cost required to accomplish project o Review and approve database development and determine project scope and limitations o Approve, schedule, plan and supervise the installation and testing of new products and improvements to computer systems o Plan, coordinate, and implement security measures to safeguard details in computer files against accidental or unauthorized damage, modification or disclosure o Develop standards and guidelines to guide the use and acquisition of software and to protect vulnerable info The main function of a database administrator is to coordinate changes to computer databases, test and implement the database applying knowledge of database management systems. A typical database administrator is responsible for planning, coordinating and implementing security measures to safeguard the computer database. Responsibility level o Exercises independent judgment with minimal direction from supervisor Skills o Verbal and written correspondence abilities, issue solving abilities, customer service and people skills (Required) o Strong expertise to work unaided and manage one?s time (Required) o Strong leadership and mentoring skills necessary to provide support and constructive performance feedback (Required) o Good knowledge of computer hardware and software (Required) o Good knowledge of computer software, such as SQL, Visual Basic, Oracle, etc (Required)
