New Orleans Film Society 2024 NOFF Accessibility Coordinator (Part-Time // Temporary) MISSION: The New Orleans Film Society is a 501(c) (3) arts non-profit organization whose mission is to discover, cultivate, and amplify diverse voices of filmmakers who tell the stories of our time. We produce the Oscar®-qualifying New Orleans Film Festival annually and invest year-round in building a vibrant film culture in the South to share transformative cinematic experiences with audiences and connect dynamic filmmakers to career-advancing resources. POSITION OVERVIEW: The New Orleans Film Society seeks a professional with experience working with communities with disabilities in public settings. The person will coordinate special needs for Festival patrons and assess accessibility efforts for Festival events. The candidate must have a thorough understanding of ADA requirements for public spaces. We specifically encourage a person with a disability to apply for this role. The Accessibility Coordinator reports directly to the Managing Director and collaborates closely with other team leaders. Timeline for the position: 3 months: August to October 2024 The schedule for this position is flexible as long as the festival deadlines are met. We estimate that this position will average around 10-20 hours/per week, with hours going up in weeks around the event itself. The Festival is scheduled for October 17-22 . Scope of Work: Review and assess all physical spaces for the Festival from the perspective of accessibility needs and propose possible accommodations for implementation. Review and suggest adjustments to our existing marketing and communication efforts to create access for all communities. Review and suggest adjustments for the virtual portion of the Festival to increase access. Coordinate outreach to communities with disabilities to promote Festival access and distribute tickets/passes as needed. Coordinates disability community NOFF focus groups, organizes their participation and meetings, and aggregates final feedback and reports. Coordinates services or special accommodations requested for the patrons and manages them on the ground. Collaborates with all Festival teams and advises on accessibility needs for each section of the Festival. Provides education and training for Festival staff and volunteers around the NOFF accessibility plan and communicates it to all departments. Review the FEAW accessibility checklists and work with all departments to implement them. Review the existing accessibility plan and suggest any changes or additions. Skills, Experience + Qualifications - Required: Alignment to the organization’s stated mission and values. Previous experience with working with communities with disabilities and a good understanding of their needs in public spaces. Exposure to public events from the lens of accessibility needs. Knowledge of ADA requirements for physical spaces. Existing connections with the Greater New Orleans area disability communities. High comfort working large live events, handling pressure, and understanding deadline-driven environments. Great organization, planning, and productivity skills. Ability to work nights and weekends during scheduled festivals and events. Posses a form of transportation to move easily and quickly between venues across New Orleans. Self-starter with strong initiative, drive, sense of urgency & ability to work with a high degree of autonomy. Benefits & Compensation: This position is temporary and non-exempt, and the hourly compensation is $18 per hour . Temporary staff members are eligible to receive the following benefits: Paid sick time and holidays; Simple IRA with 3% employer-matched contribution Workers’ compensation insurance. The New Orleans Film Society reserves the right to change the listed benefits at any moment, with advance notification to employees. Location: New Orleans Film Society staff work on a hybrid schedule, with some time in the office and some working remotely. The individual filling this position needs to be New Orleans-based because they need to be on the ground during NOFF and any other pre-festival in-person events/training/site visits.
